Malignant disease (cancer)


The parent of a child suffering from a malignant disease, may be entitled to a disabled child allowance from birth to age 18 years and three months, provided that he meets the basic requirements.

Entitlement is determined according to the treatments given to the child:

Child receiving chemotherapy treatment

  • During the treatments period - An increased allowance is paid at a rate of 235% amounting to NIS 8,313 , for heavy and prolonged medical treatments.
  • After the treatments completion - First month following treatments, an increased allowance is paid at a rate of 235% and, during five additional months, an allowance is paid at a rate of 100% amounting to NIS 3,479 .

Benefit rate of 100% will continue even beyond this period, if the child has a long-term, permanent and severe disease which appeared as a result of treatments.

Child receiving biologic treatment

  • Child with an active disease receiving a biologic treatment - a 100% benefit rate of NIS 3,479 is paid from the first day of the month treatments started, for a 6 months period or the duration of treatments (whichever ends last). The benefit is paid for need of full supervision.
  • Child with an inactive disease receiving a biologic treatment - a 50% benefit rate of NIS 1,771 is paid for a year, from the first of the month treatments for active disease ended and biologic treatments for inactive disease started. The benefit is paid for need of partial supervision

Please note, if the child is entitled to a higher benefit for other reasons, such as heavy medical treatments or dependence on the help of others from the age of 3, the benefit is paid at a higher rate.

Documents to be submitted

  • Claim Form for Disabled Child Allowance (fill out and send the form on-line / download the form) - please mention on the form if the child is designated to join rehabilitative day care.
  • Medical certificate about the child's medical condition and functioning, mentioning medical history, type and frequency of the treatment given to the child.
  • Statement on specialists follow-up - details about the continuing treatment program.

Attaching all above documents to the claim will enable us to determine the allowance eligibility without summoning the child to appear before the Medical Board.

Should eligibility be established upon the documents, your right to require, within 45 days, an examination by the Medial Board in presence of the child is reserved.

Benefit rates

For a parent of a child eligible for an allowance due to malignant disease, entitlement rate will be determined based on the stage of the disease and the child's functioning, as detailed below:

  • 50% entitlement rate, amounting to NIS 1,771
  • 100% entitlement rate, amounting to NIS 3,479
  • 188% entitlement rate, amounting to NIS 6,542
  • 235% entitlement rate, amounting to NIS 8,313

The benefit is paid retroactively for up to one year prior to the date of claim submission. For further information on benefit payment, click here.

Important

  • You are entitled to receive, free of charge, advice and preparation for appointments at the Medical Board provided by "Helping Hand" centers.
  • If you were summoned to appear with your child before a Medical Board and your child does not require assistance for everyday functions – you may request these activities to be excluded from examination.
  • Prior to the Medical Board, it is recommended to prepare a list of your child's medical problems, and to indicate, during the Board, how these medical problems affect the functioning of the child and his parents.
  • Receiving a disabled child allowance entitles to benefits from other institutions and organizations.
