Extension of birth and parenthood leave due to multiple births (more than one child)

A woman who gives birth to more than one baby in one birth may extend her birth and parenthood (the regular birth and parenthood leave is 15 weeks, of which eight weeks, at most, can be taken before the due date of the birth, and the rest after the date of the birth) and receive an additional maternity allowance for the extended time, as follows:

  • A woman who is entitled to a maternity allowance for 15 weeks - may extend her birth and parenthood leave by three weeks for each additional baby that was born during that birth. In other words, a woman who gave birth to twins is entitled to both birth and parenthood leave and maternity allowance for 18 weeks, while a woman who gave birth to triplets is entitled to 21 weeks, and so forth.

  • A woman who is entitled to a maternity allowance for eight weeks - may extend her birth and parenthood leave by two weeks for each additional baby who was born during that birth. In other words, a woman who gave birth to twins is entitled to birth and parenthood leave and maternity allowance for ten weeks, a woman who gave birth to triplets is entitled to twelve weeks, and so forth.
