End of reserve service

Renewing eligibility for unemployment benefits for an unemployed reservist

When your eligibility for unemployment benefits was approved, you received an update on your entitled number of unemployment days (between 50 and 175 days) and your year of unemployment.

If you were in the reserve service and did not use all the unemployment days you are entitled to, the National Insurance Institute takes care of you, and will renew your eligibility in the following way:

You have unemployment days left and your unemployment year has not ended

  • You will resume receiving unemployment benefits at the end of your service.
  • To do that end, you must return and report to the Employment Service Office, and we will renew your eligibility for unemployment benefits without being required to contact us.
  • Please note that if your entitlement to unemployment benefits was renewed and your unemployment year ended before you used up your remaining unemployment days - see what you need to do in the next paragraph.

You have unemployment days left and your unemployment year has ended

  • You need to submit a new claim for unemployment benefits to us at the end of your service.
  • If you meet the eligibility conditions - the claim will be approved, a new unemployment year will start for you and you will receive a new quota of unemployment days.
  • If you do not meet the eligibility conditions - don't worry! We will automatically extend your eligibility, and we will pay you the unused remaining unemployment days from the previous year.
  • To receive unemployment benefits, you must return and report to Employment Service.

Calculation of reserve service benefit for those discharged from reserve service and were called to another reserve duty

The benefit related to the additional reserve service will be calculated as follows:

  • If 60 days have not passed between their discharge and the start of the next service - the benefit will be paid based on the calculation made for the previous benefit.
  • If 60 days have passed between their discharge and the start of the next service - we will recalculate their benefit based on the 3 months of work preceding the additional reserve service.
