Benefits to the spouse of the hostage/missing


​The spouse of the hostage/missing - is entitled to a permanent monthly benefit, as well as various increments.

The benefit for a spouse includes also increments for children of the hostage/missing, up to age 21.

The amount of the benefit is based on the wage of public servant in the administrative scale, and calculated according to the spouse's age, the number of children and their age.

Spouses living with a child under the age of 21

They will receive a benefit at a rate of 253% of his or her wage as public servant at scale 19 on the administrative scale.

Increment for a child

  • For each child is paid an increment of 11% of the benefit amount : NIS 997.58.
  • The spouse will continue to receive the increment for a child until his or her 21st birthday. However, if the child turned 21, and serves in compulsory military service, the increment for that child will continue as long as the compulsory service, but only until reaching the age of 24.
  • The spouse living with children under 18, will receive an extra increment for each child.

Spouses whose children came of age (youngest turned 21 but is under 24)

They will receive a benefit at 89% of the basic benefit due to a spouse with one child. Moreover, the spouse whose children came of age will receive a monthly increment (extra increment) for personal needs. When the child reaches age 23, the spouse will be paid an extra increment at a lower rate.

Spouses without children

They will receive a benefit at a rate of 98% of the benefits paid to a spouse whose children came of age.

The amount of the benefit for a spouse without children is NIS 10,193.54 .

Divorcee of a hostage/missing who did not remarry

She is entitled to benefits if she meets the following conditions:

  • The divorcee was aged 40 or older at the time of abduction/missing, or was the mother of a child of the hostage/missing.
  • The hostage/missing is liable for alimony of the woman, based of judgment rendered by a court or a qualified Beit Din or according to a written agreement.

The amount of the benefit will be determined according to the level of alimony.

Male or female divorcee living with a child of the hostage/missing

They will receive a monthly benefit for the child, as guardian. the benefit is paid to the parent until the child 21st birthday.
Benefit amount: NIS 5,912 (as of November 2021).

Child in special circumstance

If the child of the hostage/missing needs, for medical or educational reasons, a special treatment or supervision in an institution or another framework, outside the household of the parent - the National Insurance is allowed to pay for the expenses of the medical treatment or supervision instead of the monthly benefit.

Female spouse who was pregnant at the time of the abduction/missing

Will receive an increment at a rate of third of benefits due to her, for three months. The increment is paid from the seventh month of her pregnancy and until its end. After childbirth, she will receive a one-time grant, amounting to 3 months of benefit for a spouse without children.
