The National Insurance warns: The validity of the Law for the Transfer of “Unemployment replacement grants” to North and South evacuees – will end at the end of August

Until now, despite requests from the National Insurance, the Ministry of Finance has not extended the eligibility for the replacement of unemployment benefits for those aged 67+ too.
In addition, the occupancy grants for evacuees from the north and south will also end at the end of August and depend on the government's decision on the continued evacuation of settlements.

Data

  • Unemployment replacement grants and occupancy grants are for evacuated residents of the north and south.
  • There are 12 settlements in the south, among them: Nahal Oz, Netiv Ha 'Asara, Beeri, Dune, Kisufim, Ein HaShlosha and more, and 43 settlements in the north, among them: Metula, Shlomi, Kfar HaYovel, Rosh HaKanah, Kiryat Shmona, Betzet, Hanita, Zarit and more.

Unemployment replacement

  • In July 2024, more than 5,000 citizens (200 of them aged 67+) received unemployment replacement grants in a total amount of about NIS 80 million. As stated, at the end of the month the legislation will end and the National Insurance will not be able to continue to pay those eligible.
  • The payment for the month of August will be made during the month of September and this will be the last payment, as of today.

Occupancy grants

In July 2024,

  • approximately 1,200 evacuees from the south received occupancy grants totaling about NIS 6.4 million in occupancy grants.
  • In the northern settlements, about 43,000 evacuees from the north received a total of NIS 226 million.

As mentioned, in order to transfer payments properly and on time, it is necessary to complete legislation and extend it, as well as for the National Insurance to make logistical preparation such as: computer systems, designated centers for responding to residents, etc.

The National Insurance reiterates that without a legislative extension, the payments cannot be paid to those entitled.
