Soldiers in compulsory or permanent service receive health services through the Ministry of Defense and are therefore not insured under the State Health Insurance Law and are thus not eligible for health services from one of the HMOs.
By law, a discharged soldier resumes membership in the HMO to which he/she belonged before conscription. The Israel Defense Forces automatically transfers information on the soldier's discharge to the NII.
- If a discharged soldier's former HMO has not been informed about his/her release, the soldier must fax a copy of his/her discharge certificate to the NII's Insurance and Health Division, by email at mirshamb@nioi.gov.il or by fax at 02-646-2029, and we will forward the information to the soldier's HMO and within 24 hours his/her membership will be renewed.
- Discharged soldiers who wish to switch to a different HMO (the transfer can be made while the soldier is still serving in the army) can do so according to the regulations for switching.
- Discharged soldiers who were not members of an HMO beforehand, must register with the HMO of their choice and they will immediately be entitled to health services.
- Discharged soldiers who do not know to which HMO they belong - can receive information on the Personal Service site or through the *6050 call center.
