A person with limited mobility who believes that he cannot drive or use the vehicle authorized for him by the Mobility Agreement due to his physical limitations or his driving limitations, or who requires special accessories, must contact the Mobility Department at the branch handling his case and submit a letter requesting to be examined by the Medical Institute for Road Safety for the purpose of authorizing a special vehicleA vehicle that may be entered while sitting in a wheelchair, or that may be driven while sitting in a wheelchair. and special accessories that will meet his needs. This letter will be forwarded to the Medical Institute by the mobility claims officer.
The special vehicle and the special accessories recommended by the Institute will be authorized for the person with limited mobility only after the claims officer receives the Institute's recommendation.
A person who is dissatisfied with the Institute's decision regarding the size of the vehicle is entitled to submit a letter with his reasons to the director of the Medical Institute for Road Safety within 60 days from the date of receiving the decision.
In the case of a request to authorize a special vehicle, the person with limited mobility must be re-examined by the Medical Institute for Road Safety before the purchase, even if he was examined by the Institute in the past.
Please note:
If you must travel to appear before the vehicle size committee of the Medical Institute for Road Safety or before the medical appeals committee, and you are unable to use public transportation due to the state of your health, you may be entitled to a refund of travel expenses, provided that you are not receiving a mobility allowance.
For the purpose of examining your entitlement to a refund, you must provide your local NII branch with authorization from the director of the Medical Institute or the chairman of the appeals committee, stating that you are unable to use public transportation, along with original receipts from the trip.
