A child depending on the help of others in performing everyday functionsDressing, eating, washing, mobility in the home, personal hygiene in a noticeably greater extent than children his age, may be entitled to a Disabled Child allowance from age 3 years to 18 years and three months.
Establishment of a dependence on others requires, in most cases, the child's examination by the Medical Board. If the child is unable to reach to the Board because of his disability, this should be indicated on the claim form and, depending on the child's condition, he might be examined at home.
Dependency examination for a child who receives an allowance
Even for a child who receives an allowance for a disease or impairment - his parents can submit a request of Dependency examination for a child receiving a disabled child allowance, to let us assess if he is entitled to a higher allowance.
What is examined during a Medical Board?
During the Board, a doctor examines the child's functioning level in comparison to children his age, by assigning an amount of points to every action and determining benefit eligibility according to the total number of points scored:
- Up to 4 points scored in dependency test - the child is entitled to a benefit as child depending on the assistance of others, he may however be eligible for other impairments.
- Between 5 and 7 points scored in dependency test - the child is entitled to a benefit rate of 50%, amounting to NIS 1,771 (as of Jan 01, 2024).
- Between 8 and 9 points scored in dependency test - the child is entitled to a benefit rate of 112%, amounting to NIS 4,099 (as of Jan 01, 2024) - new eligibility level since January 2022.
- Between 10 and 12 points scored in dependency test - the child is entitled to a benefit rate of 188%, amounting to NIS 6,542 (as of Jan 01, 2024).
- 13+ points scored in dependency test - the child is entitled to a benefit rate of 235%, amounting to NIS 8,313 (as of Jan 01, 2024) - new eligibility level since January 2022.
