Child allowance for adoptive parents

Parents are entitled to a child allowance for the child they have adopted.
Entitlement to child allowance begins on the date of the child's reception for adoption or entrance in Israel in case of adoption made abroad:

  • If the adoption or the child’s entry into Israel occurs up to the 15th of the month, the child allowance will be paid from the 1st of that month.
  • If the adoption or the child’s entry into Israel occurs on the 16th of the month or later, the child allowance will be paid as of the 1st of the following month.

Please note, upon actual reception of the child as foster family in view of his adoption, you will be immediately entitled to child allowance - without having to wait until an adoption order is issued by a tribunal.

The allowance is paid once a month, on the 20th of the month.

How to submit a claim?

To receive the allowance, you have to submit a Claim for a Child Allowance.
The claim must have the following attachments:

  • Adoption in Israel – certification from the Child Welfare Services, including the child's date of birth and the temporary identity number given to him, as well as the date of adoption.
  • Adoption abroad – a notary's authorization and a photocopy of the child's passport, including the date of the child's arrival in Israel.
You should submit the claim for a child allowance within 12 months of the date of child's reception for adoption or arrival in Israel. The claim may be submitted later, but retroactive payment will be received only for the 12 months preceding the submission of the claim.
